Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB) is common among women who are in 30s and 40s. This leads to extreme disturbance in day to day life and may also cause reduction in RBC and hemoglobin content leading to anemia which further causes severe weakness. It is a condition where they experience heavy menses although they have normal womb.
The diagnosis of Dysfunctional uterine bleeding is not so easy as there may be many possible causes of heavy bleeding like fibroids. A gynacecologist needs to make a thorough examination by running sonography. Once tumors like fibroids and cancer is ruled out the patient is labeled as suffering from Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB).
From a long time Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB) is treated by hormonal treatment and hysterectomy which involves removal of womb by surgery which may lead to many complications. Because of this reason two new techniques called Uterine Balloon Ablation Therapy and Insertion of hormonal uterine device (LNG-IUD) has been developed. In uterine balloon ablation therapy a balloon is inserted into the womb through vagina with the tube which don’t requires any cuts or stitches, and thus helpful and safe even for diabetic, high BP and patients suffering from kidney related disorder.
The balloon which is in the womb is filled with hot distilled water through a computerized machine and is heated for about 8 minutes. Because of this lining of the womb gets thinner and thus it prevents womb from growing. There may be complete stoppage of menstrual bleeding, and is suitable for women who as already completed there family. The patient will be discharged within short time and she is allowed to resume her normal day life from the next day itself.
Hormonal intrauterine device looks like a copper T but it contains hormones inside it. Within 2 minutes it can be placed into the uterus and it don’t even requires anesthesia. It leads to stoppage of bleeding for about a period of 5 years and at the same time it can also be used as a method of contraception in women as the women can’t become pregnant while the device is still inside the womb. This device can be removed any time and is an excellent option for women who do not want to get pregnant or who do not want to remove their uterus.
Both these methods are safer to women and mostly give good results for women who are suffering from Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB).
