According to recent research done by Iranian researchers drinking of very hot tea may cause throat cancer. Previously it was found that people who consume lot of tobacco and alcohol are at higher risk of cancer associated with oesophagus and drinking of burning or very hot liquids increase chances of such tumors. Researh has revealed that drinking of very hot tea of above 70 degree celsius of temperature increase the chances of throat cancer when compared to drinking of agreeable degree of heat of less than 65 degree celsius.

Golestan is one of the 30 provinces of Iran and this region is among highest rates of throat cancer but surprisingly the smoking rates and consumption of alcohol is very low. This lead Reza Malekzadeh of Tehran University and his colleagues to study about the concerned disease in that region. They found that almost everyone of that place drink black tea regularly drinking almost a litre every day. They studied the tea-drinking habits of about 300 people who are affected by oesophageal cancer and another 571 healthy individuals from the same region Golestan. They found that people who drink tea within 2 minutes of its preparation when compared to those who give a gap of four or more minutes are at five times more risk of cancer. According to British studies they found that people prefer drinking of tea at an average temperature of 56 degree to 60 degree celsius.

Oesophageal cancer is a kind of tumor which occurs in the oesopagus a muscular tube which is the passage between the pharynx and stomach through which food passes.

But researchers said that it is not clear how consumption of hot tea may cause throat cancer but they gave an idea that damage to the lining of the throat by heat may initiates it. It is already found that oesophagus cancer kills almost about 500,000 people every year worldwide with majority of the disease occuring in Asia, Africa and south America.

Earlier it was reported that Asians do have an enzyme deficiency which may lead to oesophageal cancer when they drink alcohol.

Unfortunately prostate cancer symptoms are not seen in the early stages when it can be curable. Decrease in food intake, lack of hunger, weight loss, softening of bone are the symptoms seen in advanced stages.

DETECTION IN EARLY STAGES- Normally those who crosses 50 years of age if faces any problem in urination then per-rectal examination is done. If the prostate gland is hard then it can be because of prostate cancer. Prostate specific antigen (a blood test) is done among these patients. In these PSA test if the concentration is in between 0-4NG/ml then it is normal. Incase if it exceeds 4NG/ml then there is a chance of prostate cancer (Note that this concentration may alter according to the size of the prostate gland). Because of this prostate biopsy should be done. Biopsy is not a test which should be performed by getting admitted into hospital. It can be done in a simple manner like an out patient. Biopsy is the accurate method for the diagnosis of prostate cancer.

SO WHO NEEDS BIOPSY-
In western countries every man who crosses 50 years undergoes biopsy every alternate year. Because as said earlier prostate cancer can be curable in the early stages and its symptoms are seen only in advanced stages. So each and every man who crosses 50 years should undergo biopsy test.

PREVENTION-
Vitamin-D should be included in diet. Animal fat should be avoided. Vegetables like carrot, tomato which included beta carotene, licopene should be taken. Men should try to remain fit. Regular exercise, walking will help in this. Cigarettes and alcohol are so dangerous if you have any such habit then leave it right now.

TREATMENT-
If the prostate cancer is detected in the early stages then it can be treated fully by prostectomy. Laparoscopy is also favored; in this nerve sparing surgery is done which involves removal of affected prostate gland which doesn’t even effects men’s sexual life. However due to recent advancements in medical and technological field prostate cancer can now be treated in every stage by radiation therapy.

The word prostate means “One who leads from the front” or “One who gives protection”. You can understand by this it indicates man. This gland is only present in males. Normally after crossing 50 years of age due to hormonal imbalance the prostate gland enlarges in size. This enlargement is not because of prostate cancer; such condition is called Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH). Because of this the affected patient problems like frequent urination. There is also chance of prostate cancer in persons of this age.
The prostate cancer risk factors are -

1) Among men who crossed 50 years of age prostate cancer is one of the most common when compared to other types of cancer.
There is a misconception among common people that men who are active in sexual activity are at risk of getting prostate cancer. This is totally wrong. Sexual life doesn’t have any relation to cancer. Cigarette smoking is one of the biggest risk factors of prostate cancer.
9) Those who drink 3 pegs of alcohol daily for about 10 years are at risk of prostate cancer. Consumption of whisky is more dangerous when compared to beverages like wine and bear.
10) Obesity and increase in weight, lack of sedentary life is also one of the risk factor for prostate cancer.
